Olabayo Joshua Awodirepo
My name is Olabayo J. Awodirepo, a PhD candidate in French Linguistics and a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics. During my time at UA, I have been involved in student leadership and service in different capacities, including serving as President of the African Students Association, a representative in the Graduate Student Association House of Delegates, Graduate Student Representative for my department, and Conference Chair for the University of Alabama Languages Conference.
I am running for the Graduate School Senate seat because I believe graduate students deserve active representation and a voice that reflects the range of experiences within our community. Having served as a liaison between graduate students and faculty in my department, I understand the importance of listening to students, communicating their concerns, and making sure they know about the resources and opportunities available to them.
My platform focuses on making graduate student representation more visible, accessible, and responsive. I want to improve how students learn about campus resources and opportunities, create stronger channels for bringing graduate student concerns to SGA, and encourage connections across departments.
If elected, I will draw on my experience in student leadership and representation to ensure that graduate students are not only represented but also informed about what SGA is doing and how they can engage with it.
Cameron Morgan
Hello my UA Family! My name is Cameron Morgan, and I am an Accelerated Master of Business Administration student at The University of Alabama. This past May, I was honored as the male recipient of the Outstanding Student Award by the University of Alabama National Alumni Association. During my time at UA, I have been involved in Jasons Senior Men’s Honorary, Mortar Board, Anderson Society, Order of Omega, Greek Life, and the Shelby Scholars Program. Within the Student Government Association, I served for two years in the Belonging and Wellness Cabinet, helped lead Toy Ball initiatives, and previously served on Lobby Board.
I am running to serve as your Graduate Senator because I understand both the undergraduate and graduate student experience at UA. Transitioning into graduate school has shown me that graduate students have unique needs, concerns, and experiences that deserve greater attention and representation within SGA.
My platform is simple: Graduate Students Matter Too. I will advocate for graduate students when legislation, programs, and initiatives are being discussed, while working collaboratively with fellow senators and campus leaders to ensure our voices are represented. I want to be an accessible senator who listens, speaks up, and makes sure graduate students are not an afterthought in decisions that affect our University experience.
Micah Thomas
My name is Micah Thomas, and I am Interdisplinary Studies from the historic city of Selma, Alabama. I am honored and excited to announce my candidacy for Senator of Graduate School. I have earned an undergraduate degree in Criminology from the Capstone. I have earned two associate degrees from Wallace Community College Selma, and I am deeply committed to the values of advocacy and leadership. Coming from a town known for its courageous fight for civil rights, I have been inspired by the legends who endured hardship to secure the right to vote, not just for themselves, but for future generations. Their legacy has taught me that we cannot wait for change; we must be the change the world needs.
For me, this journey begins here, where legends are made. I’m running for this office to represent my college and be the voice that drives change. I want others to feel the same support and encouragement I’ve received here. My goal is to develop initiatives that create opportunities and solutions within our college. By partnering with fellow senators, we can make these initiatives accessible to all students. The Capstone has always symbolized the power of unity, and with the support of the students and the SGA, we will continue to showcase each student’s greatness.
