TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Student Government Association (SGA)
is proud to announce the launch of the “Look Up, Legends!” initiative. This initiative is a
proactive step towards increasing pedestrian safety across campus. Written by Senator Hailey
Adams, sponsored by Speaker of the Senate Chloe Pickle, and endorsed by the 113th Presidential
Administration Council, this program aims to combat the growing issue of distracted walking
that has led to accidents on campus.
As part of this initiative, 50 A-frame double-sided safety signs featuring catchy slogans like
“Look Up Legends” and “Be Alert, Cars Hurt” will be installed at strategic locations, including
Hewson Hall, Stadium Drive, Rose Administration, and more. The project is a collaboration
between SGA, the Division of Student Life, UAPD, and Transportation.
Placement of the signs will begin the first two weeks of January 2025, coinciding with students’
return to campus for the spring semester. By delivering impactful reminders to stay alert, this
initiative reflects SGA’s commitment to fostering a safe environment for all members of the UA
community.
“The ‘Look Up, Legends’ campaign is designed to grab attention and spark conversations about
pedestrian safety”, said Halle Harman, Director of Communications. “Through bold messaging
and strategic sign placement, we’re not just raising awareness we’re encouraging students to take
an active role in keeping themselves safe.”
