The SGA Welcomes Students Back with Hi-Tide Day

SGA welcomes students at Hi-Tide Day

Tuscaloosa, AL – The University of Alabama Student Government Association (SGA) kicked off the academic year with “Hi, Tide Day”, an event hosted to foster connections among students, faculty, and staff. The event aimed to break the ice and help students, faculty, and guests build community.

Held in several locations across campus including Julia Tutwiler, Student Center Lawn, and the Quad, SGA welcomed students with free popsicles, nametags and t-shirts. The Student Government Association passed out a total of 1,000 free shirts to students at the Student Center Lawn.

“We’re thrilled with the success of “Hi, Tide Day” and the positive energy it has brought to our campus,” said Lucy Bonhaus, Vice President for Student Affairs. “The distribution of nametags and t-shirts was a fantastic way to visually unify our community and encourage students to interact and build new connections.”

Started in the spring of 2021, Hi, Tide Day was launched after the COVID-19 pandemic to help reconnect the campus community. The event reflects the University’s commitment to rebuilding and strengthening relationships among students, faculty, and staff as we move forward into a new academic year.
