2025 Nursing College Senate Candidates

These are the candidates for the College Nursing Senate Seats in the Spring 2025 SGA General Election.

Ella Cobb

Hi, my name is Ella Cobb, and I am a sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, majoring in Nursing. I am thrilled to announce my candidacy as a Senator for the Capstone College of Nursing! As an aspiring nurse and a dedicated student, I am deeply committed to advocating for meaningful changes that will enhance the educational experience and well-being of our student body.

One significant change I would like to implement is the introduction of first-semester clinical opportunities. As a first-semester student myself, I understand the importance of early hands-on experience in the hospital setting. Currently, clinicals do not begin until the second semester, but I believe that incorporating hospital exposure in the first semester will provide students with a deeper understanding of the concepts we learn in the classroom.

Another issue I am passionate about is addressing substance abuse disorder. This is a prevalent issue not only among registered nurses but also among college students. If elected, I will advocate for more workshops and resources within the Capstone College of Nursing and throughout campus to educate students on substance abuse prevention and how to assist those struggling. With your support, I will work tirelessly to implement these changes and represent the interests of my fellow students. Together, we can make a positive impact on our education and the future of nursing. If elected as a Capstone College of Nursing Senator, I am committed to upholding the excellence of UA and I hope you will #CarewithCobb on February 25th!

Rebecca Petty

My name is Rebecca Petty, and I am so excited to be running for the position of Capstone College of Nursing Senator. I am a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio and am majoring in nursing. I have always had a passion for helping others and giving back to my community which is why I chose to pursue a career in nursing. As a future nurse, I strongly believe in the power of education to change lives, and I want to be a part of that transformation for both students and the broader college environment. In high school I was involved in various clubs that supported the betterment of our school. As I transition into college I want to continue to give back to my school in a meaningful way. My platform focuses on promoting mental health resources for nursing students, who often face high stress, burnout, and emotional challenges in both their academic and clinical environments. I also pledge to advocate for the overall safety of the entire student body as a whole. This way, each individual feels seen, heard and empowered. Thank you for considering me for this position. Roll Tide!
