Talk Saves Lives is a standardized, peer led, suicide prevention and awareness program provided by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). According to the AFSP, TSL “provides participants with a clear understanding of this leading cause of death, including the most up-to-date research on suicide prevention, and what they can do in their communities to save lives. Participants will learn common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, and how to keep themselves and others safe”.

A Sense of Place, Screening and Panel Event

Hosted by the UA Honors College, the Center for Public Television, and the UA Cuba Center,
this special event features a screening of the short documentary “A Sense of Place,” which explores the
unlikely brotherhood between an Alabamian and a Cuban photographer. Following the film, there will be a
panel discussion including the documentary’s subject, Chip Cooper, Honors College Dean Tiffany Sippial,
Leadership Development and Community Engagement Director Dr. Jackson Harris, the filmmaker, and
others. This screening takes place on November 12 at 6:00 PM in Autherine Lucy Hall room 118 and all are
welcome.
